Newbie:- Add readers to private blog

  • I have set up a privateblog.
    now how do i add readers to this this private blog ( ie.. they can read and comment.. only)

    I have 4 emails of people whom i want to share this private blog ( only reading and commenting)

    Please guide me.. I am still learning,

  • A crude way would be to password protect everything and give your mates the password….

    ok..
    This is what i did
    Settings – privacy – I would like my blog to be private,
    and gave the email at the username (add user)

    Apparently this does not seem to be working..

    should i ask the readers to register themselves and then give that username here ???

    What version of WP are you using to get that option… I don’t have it ??

    I created this blog just 3 weeks back

    hang on is this a wordpress.com hosted blog?

    the blog url is — blogname.wordpress.com

    by this it means it is a “wordpress hosted blog” isnt it ?

    yeah…. Don’t these behave slightly differently to how a privately hosted blog would behave?

    I dont know.. this is my first time with wordpress..
    I am trying to learn how wordpress works..

    irrespective of WP hosted / privately hosted..
    if a private-blog option is given to the admin.. then one would expect instructions to “allow specific readers”… just read and comment

    The admin (like me) might not want every one to be a “user” ( with contributor status)

    OK.. tried something else..
    1. I log off and try to view the blog – I get message “Protected blog” ( fine.. so far so good)
    2. Logged in with my ID – yes.. i was able to see ( good again)
    3. logged out – got mysled a new test ID
    4. gave privateblogurl – said protected blog – used the new ID to login – “Got redirected to the dashboard of the new ID” ( Is this how it is supposed to work ??… i thought the “unauthorised user” will still get a message saying ” you donot have permission to view this blog”.. or something like taht

    Any private blog users / readers, please share your experience

    You’ll get answers there. These forums are for the self-hosted version of WordPress.

    Also, “private” just means that it’s set to be ignored by search engines and things. Not that it has username/password protection.
