New WP installation

  • Here’s the thing. I have a domain ceconn.com which I use for business and I host it. I have a WP subdomain canwetalk.ceconn.com, which is my blog. I’m now adding another subdomain, mykitchen.ceconn.com and so I installed WP again in addition to my previous installation and changed the directory name to mykitchen. So far, so good.
    I created a MySQL database. I made the changes in wp-config.php. However, when I went to admin/wp-install.php, I get this message:
    Error establishing a database connection
    This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    Are you sure that the database server is running?
    If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

    So here I am now in the Support Forum. Hope you can help? Does it have something to do with the fact that there are two installations of WordPress or is it something else?

  • Something is wrong, most likely, in your wp-config.php file.

    Review the Create database and user section of Installing WordPress and also look at Editing wp-config.php.

    I’ve looked and looked until I’m dizzy. Everything looks right. I know the error should be in config.php but what if it isn’t and it still doesn’t work?

    Almost always, it is something wrong in wp-config.php.

    Or the database server is really down!

    To be sure, simply download the wp-config.php from canwetalk.ceconn.com

    Change the table prefix so as not to pull from the same database tables as your working installation. This gives you 2 blog installs in the same database.

    Or – it’s exactly like MichaelH says – something is not correct in wp-config.php or the newly created database is down.

    one other possibility – did you assign your database user full priveleges?

    I thought I’d post this to clarify things. It was not my fault. The fault was with my host. I sent them the error message and they fixed it. They just didn’t tell me what they did, I’m sorry to say.

    Help I installed wordpress on my website and it froze – so I had to shut it down, but when I went to install.php it said it had installed and all was good. But I have no user name or password to get into it? WHAT DO I DO? Do I have to uninstall and reinstall?
