• Hi,

    Here’s the situation:

    1. I’ve developed a new wordpress site for my client. Edited and adapted the css extensively. This new site is hosted on my developing server.

    2. My client has a current wordpress site hosted on their own server.

So my question is, what is the safest way to transfer the new site I’ve developed to their server – without over writing their current site until the new one is fully approved and finalised.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

It seems you’ve developed a new theme only, correct?

In that case, if you just add the new theme and activate it, it does not in any way overwrite anything. Still I would recommend a file and database backup.

But for the migration, all you have to do is upload the theme folder of the new theme to the customer’s website (/wp-content/themes), login to WordPress dashboard and from the Appearance > Themes section, activate the newly created theme.

    That should be it.

Thanks. I thought it would be as easy as that.

But my concern is, my client wants to add new content and access the site before it goes live.

So, how do I develop the new theme and allow my client to see those changes without overwriting the existing site?

    Thanks again.
