• I started building a webpage based on a “Post”, which appears to be designed for blogs. I would like to start again using “Pages”.

Can I save what I did, in case I decide to continue with it at a later stage?

    thank you

    qim

  • Yes you can. If you do not wish it to appear on the site, edit the Post and set it’s Publish status back to Draft or Pending Review.

That brings me to the question of backing up. I have backedup public_html to my hard drive. Are these the only important files? What is www for?

    Thank you

Thanks. I had read this post already. What confuses me now is the purpose of the various folders: public_html; www; public_ftp; etc

If I were to have my page hacked, corrupted, or if the host locked me out, what are the folders thar are essential? Or should I just backup everything including what appears to me to be host folders?

The folders you mentioned above are part of your hosts’ server setup – not WordPress.

so, which are the WordPress folders?

And which are the essential if I were suddenly to change hosts?

    thank you esmi

The only folder you would need is the wp-content folder as this contains all of your themes, plugins & uploads. You’d also need a backup copy of your database. Everything else can be re-downloaded from here.

    Thanks

and where is the database file, please?

A database is not a file. It’s a… well… database. See WordPress_Backups for information and ways in whch you back up your database. Your hosts may also be able to assist you with this.

    Sorry to seem so dumb…

So, from what I understand everything to do with the design, code, appearance of the webpage is kept in wp-content, which is the only folder belonging to WordPress. What about Wp-admin and wp-includes?

But all data, taht is login information, blogs in either way, etc is actually kept at the Host.

    Is that it?

    thank you esmi

The wp-admin & wp-includes folders hold core WordPress scripts which can be downloaded from here.

But all data, taht is login information, blogs in either way, etc is actually kept at the Host.

    In your database, yes.
