• If you’re running a podcast through WordPress, I could use your help testing the latest version of the wp-ipodcatter plugin for making a iTunes compatible feed (including keywords, duration, and block).

The latest version also includes an admin panel under the WordPress Options tab for setting itunes:subtitle, default categories, and cover images.

As an added bonus, you can also turn your blog’s comment feed into a podcast.

cwachs, two questions; 1. can you set the duration manually? 2. is the getid3 directory in the wp-ipodcatter.zip file in your plugins directory?

    ad,
I don’t know of any reason why it wouldn’t work on Windows.

Could you try activating one of my other plugins, wp-catt or wp-ical (both at https://garrickvanburen.com) and let me know if you experience the same thing.

Also, let me know if there’s other plugins that are & aren’t visible for you.

Garrick, yes, the “getid3” directory is in the plugins folder. To be honest, I don’t know how to set durations manually with WordPress (I am embarassed to say). I’ve tried to code this for each posting but have not succeeded.

    cwachs,
In your ‘create new post’ or ‘edit post’ screen, do you see an ‘iTunes Podcast Tags’ section right below the ‘Publish’ buttons?

I do. I also have about 200 “Custom Tags” listed now that all say itunes:duration and are all empty. It is taking hours to manually delete all of them and more keep apprearing.

Gotcha. My apologies on the mass of empty custom tags – that bug has been fixed. I’d recommend removing them using a database admin tool like phpMyAdmin. It will be faster than through WordPress’ admin tool. Make sure you have v1.0 of the plugin and let me know if multiples re-appear after you’ve eradicated the existing ones.

I am running 1.0 I downloaded this for the first time 1 week ago.

cwachs, thanks. Do you have any other duplicate tags, like explicit, category, or block?

No, however, I am hard coding the keywords and do not use explicit tags – but I see no other duplicate tags in any postings. The only postings with duplicate tags have an mp3 enclosure tag with them (ie: only my podcast posts have duplicate duration tags).

I Installed the plug in as directed and activated it. However I can’t seem to cause a change in itunes ( cover image, summary, artist etc) I am fairly new to this and would be grateful for any help.

My feed does not validate in Feed validator nor in Nobody Likes Onions.

    https://www.feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=https://diningonthevine.com/wp-rss2.php

    Please help

The following error comes up in Nobody likes Onions
    Xml Data error ‘80040002’
Unable to parse Xml: The following tags were not closed: rss, channel, item.

    DineVine,

iTunes may take weeks to update (I wish is was more responsive also).

Back to something we can fix. Is the getID3 directory ncluded in the wp-ipodcatter.zip file into your plugins directory?

If not, give that a shot. If so, definitely let me know.

Thanks for getting back so quick.
A folder named getid3 was with the download. It contained 22 files. I just uploaded all of them.

I did not see a file specifically named getit3 directory though.

i hate to ask this, because it may be glaringly obvious, but how does ipodcatter know where to look for the audio file? i’m currently trying to link to it within the post using an anchor tag. is this incorrect? the <guid> is just the URL for the post itself.

okay, i think i may have fixed it. my anchor was a site specific URL (“/podcasts/filename.mp3”) instead of an absolute URL (“https://www.sitename.org/podcasts/filename.mp3&#8221;).

it now loads in itunes! and there was much rejoicing.
