I’ve run this multisite network for several years, and up until the last month or so, when adding new users to subsites, I would check the box to “Skip Confirmation Email” (“Add the user without sending an email that requires their confirmation.”) — since that seemed to require an extra step.

The last few weeks, I’ve been doing this as usual, but new users are consistently reporting that they are NOT getting the new user email with their username & pw.

Other mail is sending from the network and sites just fine — comment notifications, backup errors, etc. — so PHPmail is working.

I suppose my next step is to try going back to the Confirmation Emails, but I would appreciate it if anyone knows why this changed, and what I might do about it.

I think you are not remembering right =) We use the “Skip Confirmation Email” option for New Users all the time. Our users do not get any email from WP which is what we want. We integrated our unversity SSO so we do not use WP native authentication. A WP account is created for the user with some random password that is never used.

IMO, you do NOT want to check “Skip Confirmation Email” for New Users. If that is not selected a user will go through the activation process which will set their password.

Or maybe in the past you added existing users… which checking “Skip Confirmation Email” makes more sense

Huh. I could have sworn that the confirmation email was only an “invite” to confirm, then after that, there was another email with the user/pw. And that checking the box simply skipped to the email with user/pw, much like single sites send.

Ok. I’ll start leaving the skip confirmation unchecked. ??

    Thanks!
