• Hi,
I am somewhat new to blogging and the use of WordPress, but am eager to learn. I noticed that my first new user (today) had admin. privileges right off the bat for some reason. I obviuosly do not want this to happen, so can someone please tell me how to remedy this, or maybe shed some light on what I may or may not have done to cause this?

    Thank you very much

  • Hi –

Go to “Settings” and “General.” Make sure that “New User Default Role” is set to “Subscriber,” if that’s what you want them to be.

To change the existing user, go to “Users” and edit that user and change the role.

    Wow,
Thank you very much, that was so quick. Well shoot, since I have you here, do you have time for one more question? I installed the automatic update plugin, and it has worked flawlessly in the past but now when I try to update from 2.7 to 2.7.1 I get this:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare pclziputilpathreduction() (previously declared in /home/domain/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-automatic-upgrade/lib/pclzip.lib.php:5421) in /home/domain/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/class-pclzip.php on line 5498

What if you disable that plugin and use the native automatic upgrade capability?
