new user registration- unknown user

  • We have a wordpress website that I update for our church. Just received an email from a wordpress email prefix today with this message:
    “New user registration on your site (our site name)” followed by an unknown email address. Only a couple staff members are registered to manage the website. Where did this come from? Has our site been hacked?

  • Have you checked the site today? If so, is this new user listed? Is “Anyone can register” checked in Settings -> eGneral? If so, uncheck it and save your changes.

    Thanks for the good info! Just changed the setting as you suggested and deleted this individual.
