    I am using Learndash with Uncanny Owl plugin and Woocommerce and currently WP-members for making registration and login forms.

    Just recently (things worked fine prior to 24/02/2021) I’ve noticed that I wasn’t receiving an email telling me students had changed their password, so I checked the registration process and it wasn’t working; that is, it wasn’t sending the new user an reset password email. Upon further investigation, I also noticed that the user wasn’t getting an email for them to reset their password when I clicked the ‘Forgot password’ link.
    I’ve disable Uncanny Owl, change the setting on LearnDash to enable third party login/registration forms, but after three days of trying to figure this out through trial and error, I have hit a brick wall.

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @jeffcaffrey,

    Thanks for reaching out. Could you please share what are the SMTP settings you’re using in WP Mail SMTP, possibly with a screenshot? If you’re getting any error while sending a test email from WP Mail SMTP > Email Test, please share a full error log recorded? Here’s a screenshot for the option to get a full error log.

    Regards,

    Hi Sanjeev,
    Thanks for your reply.

    I don’t have that feature, however, the test email was sent successfully. The only message I received was:

    DMARC
    Action Recommended: It doesn’t look like DMARC has been set up on your domain (englishevolutionlearning.com). We recommend using the DMARC protocol because it helps protect your domain from unauthorized use. Please check out our step by step guide for details on how to add this record to your domain’s DNS.

    Hi @jeffcaffrey,

    Could you please share the SMTP settings/mailer you’re using? Please make sure you’ve checked the ‘Force From Email’ option in WP Mail SMTP so that all the emails are sent from the same authenticated ‘From Email’. You might also want to check if the emails are in the spam folder and get more reports using this spam test tool.

    Thanks!

    Hi @jeffcaffrey – We haven’t heard from you in about a week, so I’m going to go ahead and mark this ticket resolved. If you still have questions, though, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.

    Hi Sanjeev;

    I think that perhaps you don’t fully understand what I’ve said at the start, particularly the – ‘things worked fine prior to 24/02/2021’ and the bit where I said ‘I checked the registration process and it wasn’t working; that is, it wasn’t sending the new user an reset password email’. The main problem is that the new users are getting an email, but not the one with the link to set a password. Instead, they’re getting a link to the login area. Obviously they don’t have a password, so they can’t log in. Furthermore, as I also originally pointed out, they can’t bypass this process by clicking the ‘Forgot Password’ link, because that doesn’t generate the right email either. So it just becomes a frustrating circular problem.

    In answer to your question above; yes of course the ‘Force From Email’ box was checked and all the settings were correct, otherwise things would never have been working in the first place, right? As for checking Spam, well, of course I checked the spam – I am not a tech expert, but I’m not an idiot either; I’ve been using these frustrating machines for 30+ years. I just came on here as a last resort as I’d exhausted all of my own testing an reconfiguring. I would have reverted to a backup from before the 24/02 to check all settings from the point when things worked, but I had done a lot of additional work on the website since and didn’t really want to undo it all.

    Ultimately, I think I have a some problem that is beyond the scope of my knowledge or the information I can get from here, so I’ve opted to solicit the skills of a professional who knows what he’s doing instead, as I think its an issue related to code rather than plugin settings, which is way beyond my remit of knowledge. Nevertheless, thank you for taking the time to respond.

    Hi @jeffcaffrey,

    Thanks for sharing the details! Just to confirm, the reset password email is sent to the user but the email content does not contain the reset password link but a link to the login page? Also, you haven’t shared the mailer you’re using in WP Mail SMTP? Your SMTP provider might have logs to check or you can install email logging plugins to check if the reset password was sent?

    Thanks!

    Hi Sanfeev;

    Thanks for your reply. Re: ‘the reset password email is sent to the user but the email content does not contain the reset password link but a link to the login page’ – yes, that is correct, it isn’t sending the new user a reset password email.

    The SMTP provider is set as ‘Other’.

    Re: ‘Your SMTP provider might have logs to check or you can install email logging plugins to check if the reset password was sent’ – Maybe, but if the correct link to reset the password was sent when I tested the process I would have received that email, right? I didn’t I received an email with a different link taking me to the login page, so I’m a little confused by this suggestion. Can you explain a little further how the SMTP provider log would have a record of an email with a reset password link being sent when the actual email received contains a link to the login page. I don’t understand how or why that would happen. The log would surely show a record of the email that was actually received right? It would be strange if the log showed something else. And if there was an error, wouldn’t I get sent an error message?

    Thanks

    Hi @jeffcaffrey,

    Thanks for the details. I apologize for the misunderstanding. Since you’re receiving the email (but with an incorrect reset password link), you don’t need to contact the SMTP provider because SMTP is all set. In this case, you might want to check with the plugin sending the reset password email. If it’s sent from the WordPress core, please follow these troubleshooting steps, there might be some plugin conflicting with that email.

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Sanjeev;

    Thanks for replying. I paid a developer to fix the registration in the end. It was very problematic. He didn’t go into detail, but it took him a lot longer than he first anticipated. I think the LearnDash plugin may have caused some issues.

    Hi @jeffcaffrey,

    I’m glad the issue is resolved. Thanks for the update!

    Have a good one! ??
