• Hi I am the web designer of a site and despite the general settings email belonging to the business and every page author belonging to different users within the business, I am receiving new user registration advice on my business email. Where does wordpress gather this email?

  • Hi there! ??

If you are talking about receiving new user registration information, in your General Settings, you will see this:

This address is used for admin purposes, like new user notification.

as a comment related to the email address specified on that page.

Hi I appreciate you trying to help but now I probably wont get a reply from some-one who knows.

If you had read the question you would know that the “This address is used for admin purposes, like new user notification.” is set to the businesses email not my own. Somehow as the web designer when setting up the page, I may have originally used my email for testing purposes but then I removed my email and replaced it with the business email for whom the site was designed.

    Hi there,

I am sorry you feel that way; I will be more than happy to forward your thread to someone else.

I misunderstood your post because though you said you were the web designer, you didn’t specify whose business it was in either mentioning "the business" or in mentioning "I am receiving new user registration advice on my business email". I therefore assumed incorrectly that the business was yours for which I apologize.

The new user registration email is picked from the email EMG told you. It’s possible that your theme or a plugin is sending it to all admins, however, so as a test, turn off the notification on the settings page and see if you still get the emails. If you do, congrats, it’s a theme/plugin.

Also EMG was being helpful, and is a volunteer here, like everyone else. Please try to be respectful of their time ?? Based on the information you provided, and the manner in which you phrased it, EMG made the same assumption I would have.

By the way, you may want to experiment to see if this is even WP. Email the business email, see if your personal-business email gets the message. You may have some forwarding going on.

Hi I apologise to EMG .. I appreciate their help but I have had the unfortunate experience a few times where someone answers the question and then it is never looked at again.

I have no mail forwarding for the site, so I assume from your reply that it is theme or plug-in related. Thanks for your help and apologies once again!

PS Do you think it might be wordpress.com? I have jetpack installed on this site.

When I go to wordpress.com .. I cant see the site I am referring to above in the list of “My Blogs”.

    Hi again!

Thanks for the apology and I understand; it can be frustrating to get started on getting an answer but never get any further than that if the person who starts answering doesn’t come back.

By any chance have you had the chance to double check your WordPress database to make sure that the change you specified has taken place?

Additionally, if you check the admin email address in wp-admin/options.php (normally, I don’t recommend poking at it, but just to make sure the values are correct), is it the correct one?

You mentioned that you don’t have any mail forwarding; does this mean that you don’t have any email forwarding turned on for any of your associated – past or present – email addresses?

EDIT: Also, have you checked the email address you are using for your User Profile (used in conjunction to administer the site), too?

Hi EMG Thanks so much for sticking with me on this and sorry for the late response. My email is in the user profile as I am one of the administrators for all my clients websites but I dont receive new user registration advice on any of the other websites I have developed so I dont think that this is the reason.

I dont have any mail forwarding for any past or present – email addresses?

Havent checked the database, not really very proficient with databases and wouldnt know where to look.

    Not in options.php
