New User Problems

I’m new to a host, ftp, and wordpress. I’ve been using wrdprss 2 book and had the Install4Free (GREAT!)

I used the lonely lemon theme.
However, some internal items aren’t working, ie. editting the “about” on the frnt page, no link box with the blogging, and some other probs.

In the past I’ve used the free blogger because of unfamiliarity with html.

So community, what should I do? Try a new theme? Hire someone to fix things? Keep working at this? Learn XHTML, PHP, etc..?

I’d like a site functioning as a blog which allows some user interaction, uploading photo and brief paragraph, that’s why I went with Wrdprss (plugin).
