New User number in Admin doesn’t go away

Hello,
When a new User creates an account it shows in the admin panel as a orange number next to “Users” tab. Which is fine, I would like to know these things. And when I click on the tab “Users” to see the new users, a drop-down slides down saying that a new user has been created. Now they have already been approved so there is nothing for me to do but look at their account if I choose.
Even if I click on the drop down or look at their account. The orange number doesn’t go away. It keeps popping up every time I move to a new page or to a new tab in admin.
I have turned off almost all my plugins to see if there is a conflict and still it doesn’t go away.
