Having an odd issue when a new user fills out a listing and automatically registers for the site. The confirmation email is sent to the user, with a link to prompt the user to change/add a password, but when clicked, the page returns a 404/page not found.

Is there a way to troubleshoot what’s going on? I’m not able to get new customers until this is resolved ??

  • Have you customized the login or registration URLs at all? This isn’t something related to WP Job Manager, but related to core WordPress account activation.

What is an example URL for activation?

Thanks for your reply. I have changed the login URL using a setting in the iThemes Security plugin (i.e. /wp-admin/ changed to /getin/). I thought this might be causing a conflict, but when I manually changed the text in the URL from the email, it did not fix. Further, what is odd is that after a few hours, if I click on the link in the email, it DOES go to the right place. Not sure if it is just a matter of time/waiting, or if that is just circumstantial and something else is causing it to work at a latter time.

Example URL in the email is below:

    https://www.EXAMPLE.com/getin?action=rp&key=Ybdf5TARP9YttzpjGaMQ&login=testuser

Ahh .. chances are it’s an issue with your permalinks then, go into Settings and save your permalinks again.

BUT … with that said, it shouldn’t be generating a link to /wp-admin/ it should be generating a link to wp-login.php … so something else is up.

For standard users the default link without any plugins, etc, should be example.com/wp-login.php?action=rp&key=XXX&login=XXX

I did a few tests, and it looks like you’re right – damn permalinks…

I refreshed the permalinks and the issue seems resolved. After, I toggled the “hide backend” setting within iThemes Security and both variations seemed to work equally well.

I should have started my troubleshooting with refreshing the Permalinks – such a rookie mistake ??

    Thanks for your help!
