• I am helping out my local Humane Society while both their director and social media positions are unfilled. I am familiar with Joomla and basic html, but not WordPress. The web page above shows a small logo on the right and a link/box below with the words: View the 2014 Photo Gallery.

I can edit this page, but that image and link do not appear in the html code at all. It must be a sidebar of some sort, but I don’t know how to navigate to it. The photo link goes to a separate Shutterfly account which I can get access to and edit. But I can’t find where to change the link and the verbiage to say, See the 2018 Photo Gallery.

I can provide screen shots of the code and the menu of the WordPress Admin site, if there is some way to upload that here.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello,

Your local society is using a premium theme called Advocator
You can get help from the developer or read the documentation
Like you said, it’s a sidebar, and the element(s) are called Widgets, this link should help you understand how to edit those elements.
In Dashboard under Appearance go to Widgets find those elements and edit them as you want.

    Hope this helps.

For pro or commercial product support please contact the author directly on their site. They cannot support their customers here.

As the author is aware, commercial products are not supported in these forums. As you are their customer I am sure they will have no problem supporting you there. Also, forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly.

That link and the link text appear to be in a sidebar widget.

    Dashboard –> Appearance –> Widgets

The bit of code you need to get at is most likely in the right sidebar (If your theme offers multiple sidebars) and it will be a ‘text’ or ‘Custom HTML’ widget depending on the WordPress version used when the Widget was created.

It appears the original creator didn’t supply a title for the Widget (which is the norm for a bit of code dropped into a Widget to form a link). You will probably need to expand the widget by mousing over the little button to expose the code.

Once you see the code you should be able to change the text and drop the new link over the previous link. Make sure to hit the save button when you’re done.

Backups are a good idea before you get into changing things.
