New User- Many Errors, not sure if WP or Comic Press problems

  • Things are not as intuitive as WP or CP would like to have you believe.
    I’ve been fighting with wordpress for months now and have not had it do anything smoothly yet.

    I am trying to use comicpress not for comics, but as a photoblog.I like the full-screen image format, with a blog that accompanies each photo. I’m trying to use CP Manager and companion as well.

    I am unable to use auto updates for with either plugins or WordPress itself. I get simply a blank screen and the status message reads: “Done”
    (see screen shots) Manually downloading updates and dropping them into the plug in folders seems to work for plugins.

    Same thing when I click to update WordPress, which makes me think it’s more of a WordPress problem than Comicpress.

    On the Dashbaord, the ‘Incoming Links’ and ‘Plugins’ windows lever finish ‘loading’.

    When I try to upload an image / blog using the manager the window usually ‘hangs up” while loading and never completes. I can at times get the image/blog to load, but as soon as I load another image/blog to publish at a later date, the previous image I loaded disappears from the blog. The original blog post remains and the image remains in its folder on my server (my folder is named “photos” instead of “comics”, but the image can not be found on the home page or in the archives.

    Any time I start fiddling around to see what is wrong, I start getting Error 500 – Internal server error messages and the whole site goes down for a day or two.

    I’ve already done a complete clean out of my server and reinstalled wordpress. I get these results with several computers and browsers and have used FireFTP and Cyberduck for FTP applications.

    It’s more likely to be a server issue. Try adding:

    AddType x-mapp-php5 .php

    to the top of your WordPress .htaccess file. With regard to your image problems, try working through this list of solutions.
