New update took down my LiquidWeb server

    Hi. Thanks for plugin, but your latest update exhausted all server connections and killed MySQL for all my sites on that server ?? At first my host support thought we were under DDOS attack as php calls to index.php seemed crazy in numbers.

    It also created for WC sub-menu of ‘Add Tab (classic)’. Amongst all other posts and pages.

    Thanks @dogsday, it really is appreciated.

    I am still unable to recreate the error, so I went ahead and rolled back the new “Edit Classic” feature. Please give the new beta 1.3.1 a try and let me know how it goes. If it resolves the issue, I will commit to WP Repo.

    I’ll need to test on a production site exhibiting the problem as a test site that I was looking at was ok. Leave it with me a short while to backup etc and I’ll be back.

    Hi Jeff,
    On my LW 8GB RAM 4 Core CPU VPS I have PHP 7.0 for my WC site. WP is the 4.9.8. VisualComposer and theme are 2yo [see list of environment below].
    Issue was upon the auto-update [managed by Clearfy plugin] from your last version to the 1.3. I now have the 1.3 and all’s well, but perhaps due to PHP7.0 and no PHP-FPM for my WC site. However, also on other sites with PHP7.2 with/out FPM enabled there were all these error logs. Just that my WC site started cooking and boiling over on the transition and still getting error logs galore.

    At least once all processes finally cleared or were killed off by my host server came back to life and site is functional even with these errors.

    I assume many plugins are undergoing issues this week, in preparation for the terrible gutenberg upcoming update.
    I am so sorry all this must be so stressful also to you, and taking up so much time for you – not just to us seeing sites down and spending so much time to repair.

    On the site that got so hammered from your plugin update entire server crashed this site’s environment is below. It’s a WC site. My host says there were endless calls to index.php from server IP and some from mine [I was working on another site but had a tab opened]. It may have had issues with WC. I’m seeing lots of error logs to do with WC in past days.

    Have tested one site (using DG1.3.1) and error seems to have been resolved.

    No error-message on front-end when not logged in, nor when logged in as admin.

    Will test a second site with virtually same set up and see what happens.

    Any other users testes 1.3.1?

    At this point, I am thinking the issue is with a specific plugin or theme. Not sure which ones, so hopefully someone can do some basic troubleshooting and share the steps necessary to repeat the issue and try to resolve.

    I’ve heard from others via email that 1.3.1 resolves the issue. Will go ahead and commit here in a few minutes or so. Still waiting for any other feedback on 1.3.1.

    Also we use CF. LW had bad issues [at least on my sites on this server] with their Railgun and albeit had been using it for a while now, suddenly it killed my site till it was turned off in my CF backend. We have SSL strict and security headers and HSTS, Authenticated Origin Pulls, Minimum TLS Version 1.2 [upgraded it from 1.1 this week for all sites], Opportunistic Encryption, Onion routing, TLS 1.3+ORTT, Automatic HTTPS Rewrites.

    We also cache Ignore query string with CF + minifying, Enable Accelerated Mobile Links, Brotli, Rocket Loader is off for WP sites since we use WP Rocket caching plugin.

    just tested 1.3.1 on a second production site previously showing the error when logged in and all is now working fine.
    I have other test sites/sites in dev using the same theme as the two production ones showing a problem, also using LW as host, an there was no problem with them using 1.3, so maybe issue is with other plugins?

    Hope others post some observations on this.

    CF observations by @tekgirlymama are interesting, but could that affect DG plugin in this way? (I’ve had issues with CF an other plugins, but understand why, given that those plugins would be affected by caching pages)

    @dogsday no idea. This whole past week was an ongoing waste of time with so much host support and trying to figure out what’s going on and why – I pointed out about CF as Railgun was suddenly messing up the server, maybe something to look into if you use it or maybe was just my bad luck I can no longer use it, no idea why.

    Maybe it’s a WC [woocommerce] conflict making all those error logs I see and slowing down my backend to 12sec load time regardless what settings page I try to load or post I try to save.

    I give up, hope after this bad week there are better ones.
    WP driving me nuts. Time to setup HTML sites.

    Been in this game a long time and I still have some ‘flat’ html sites running where functions are simple, even a few with very basic cart functions.
    However, modern times require some broader services beyond simple code, and bespoke coding is beyond the means of the vast majority of us.
    WP as a core is, IMHO, the best supported open platform at the moment and far far better than it was even 5 years ago.
    Personally, I think the key is to keep the number of plugins per install to a minimum and to test vigorously on development sites. It’s far too easy to add plugins to get more functionality, but more functionality is not always a requirement.
