New to WP – need some criticisim

    Okay, so this is still under development in some ways – but for the most part is done…ish.

    In any case, I’ve learned that showing others – with experience and not green as I am – will allow me to find mistakes and things that I can do better. So, if you wouldn’t mind checking out this new site that I’m making for a client and being ruthless (While realizing that I’m still a sensitive guy ?? so that I can learn more about what I’m doing I’d very much appreciate it.

    Here it is: https://www.Utah-Volleyball.com – keep in mind, a lot of the content will be changed. I’m just looking for feed back on the functionality and such. Links/text/images/etc will be changed in the near future. It’s utilizing Foundation framework for the responsive needs and a really base theme (FoundationPress) for the beginning steps.

    Hello NovaSev. First off, great choice on the foundation framework. I really like the layout. And responsive… even better!

    Like you mentioned, you’ve still got some work to do with content and imagery. With a site dedicated to volleyball I’m sure the images you use will really bring the pages to life. Color palette is “cool”. When I think of volleyball, warm summer days come to mind. Maybe consider using warmer reds and oranges? Even in Utah? Maybe.

    And the trend is to use larger fonts nowadays. Might want to consider that as well.

    I agree totally with the colors. It’s funny that you mention Kuler, right before I wrote this post last night I came across that – it’s awesome. The only reason I went towards the blues is because of client request, they wanted it to go with the logo that I’ll hopefully be getting soon. I’m hoping to find some nice orange and blue combo though.

    I’ll take a look at the font again – I haven’t been incredibly happy with it personally – any suggestions on which kinds? I’m pretty new with worrying about typography myself.

    I would suggest sticking with a sans serif font. Mix up your sizes. Nice big H1s. Bold colors.

    I am new to this too, but here’s my 2 cents:
    site loaded quickly. That is a BIG plus! Responsive.
    I also like the idea of changing from cool colors to warm, summer colors.

    Great to hear – I agree, fast load and responsive is something that is needed these days on every site. Glad you like it. I’m very much going with the color ideas too. I’ll still have blue in there, but with a lot more warmth as well.
