New to wordpress – how do you add a comment field for single posts

  • Hi there, I am very new to word press and needed help with setting up a comments/reply field for single posts that appear on my home page. The person who set this up said that it should work, however as I cannot get a hold of them I need to try and figure this out, hopefully with your help. Every post I have published, does not have a comment/discussion field to allow people to comment on each post. I am using the Monaco theme, and have checked the allow comments field in each post but there is nothing there….here is the link
    Something as simple as this will do, I have copied it from a site I saw:

    Feel free to ask any questions, I will try and answer them to the best of my ability, however bare with me as I am not as techy as I would like to be. Thanks in advance.

  • First, to enable comments on future Pages/Posts, check “Allow people to post comments on new articles” in Settings -> Discussion. Then edit each published Page or Post and check “Allow comments” in each case. If you do not see this pane, click Screen Options at the very top of the page and check “Discussion”.

    Thanks Esmi, I have done as you have suggested and there is still no comment field on each post. Can you suggest something else I can do? Thanks again.

    Can you try switching to the default 2013 theme?

    Sounds like there was an issue in the Monaco theme. Where did you download it from?

    Thanks Esmi. Unfortunately the person who built the website downloaded it for me, so not sure where they got it from. However, after adding a comments plugin last night, I noted that the option will appear on every page including the posts. I know it’s not a good idea to do add comments for all pages and that’s why I just wanted them for the posts section…to get people more involved in the site. However, and for now, I have not been able to isolate comments to just the posts. ??
