New to WordPress, having problems with install

  • I’m trying to download WP for the first time, new to all this. After it downloads, when I click open it gives me a message that says” Adobe Reader could not open WordPress 3.8.1 zip because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn’t correctly decoded.) I’m using a PC with Windows 7. What do I need to do to unzip the file?

  • In Windows Explorer, right click on the .zip file and select “Open with…” and then “Windows Explorer“.

    A new window should open, showing one folder called “wordpress”.

    Right-click on it and select “Copy“. Then go into another folder (where you want to install WordPress, right click in there and select “Paste“.

    I have tempted to install the wordpress template using QuickInstall made available in HostGator (I contracted my Hostweb service there).
    I failed. I believe that I follow all what was needed to be done in order to succeed its installation. It is just a matter of 2 clicks.

    Once the process is confirmed, the site doesnot open, but displays this message :

    ” The requested URL was not recognised as a valid URL. Attempted to load: https://mysite.com?reqp=1&reqr= “

    mysite.com replaces my url, i believed you guessed.
    What is going on there ?
