New to WordPress! have a few questions

My name is crystal. I just discovered wordpress a few months ago, I’ve been reading over alot of forms and help pages, in a attempt to learn everything. I have spent the last few days tossing together a homepage like what I want my blog to look like. Here it is: https://beyondthecover.net. That’s just the layout, all the links are missing and so forth. O.K questions.

What theme would I best use to try and attempt that? Should I have my own theme or template designed? What plug-ins or widgets would I have to download and install to be able to edit that template, and make it function properly? I guess while we’re at it. Does it look alright? LOL!

Sorry for all the questions. I’m just attempting to learn.
