New To WordPress

I am thinking about creating a wordpress to add new pages to an existing site. We have a very large site and I want to add new pages to it without having to go through our programers. I would also like to make changes to pages we have existing today that are static pages only, not the dynamic pages. We are hosted on Media temple, our site is in PHP and we use MySQL. Is this something that is possible using wordpress?
