As I understand it, with WPMandrill, and WPMandrill Multisite I can set up so that mail service has a default going through one Mandrill API and then can change/edit on a site by site basis. so any normal wordpress or plugin functions such as autoresponder lead gen etc all get routed through Mandrill

the next big question is which Newsletter plugin to use that allows sending emails through WPMandrill and that can be independent on each subsite

I think MailPoet wants $400 bucks for this… (free is limited to 2K emails for whole network)

Would it make sense to use MailChimp.. but not sure if Mandrill actually works with MailChimp or replaces it?

    need some guidance obviously

    Thanks

    Hello @wasanajones,

Your question is not related with the wpMandrill Multisite plugin I think, but I will try to answer your question.

Basically, Mandrill is a transactional email service, and in WordPress it is used to send emails on behalf of a WordPress installation. It does not take care of the newsletter lists, nor it takes care of the newsletter campaigns. It offers an API that developers can use to send the emails.

And as far as I understand, you need a newsletter solution. From my experience I can recommend Mailchimp – it is the best on the market in my humple opinion. Mailchimp takes care of newsletter lists, subscribers, campaigns, autoresponders – everything you would need.

So, feel free to go ahead and sign up with Mailchimp. Then you can setup your lists and integrate it with your WordPress site(s) with a plugin like “MailChimp for WordPress”. Campaigns and autoresponders are also piece of cake to setup in the Mailchimp dashboards.

Hope I was able to shed some light on your questions.

Please, let me know if I can assist in any other way.

    Regards,
    Marin
