• Hi all

I have an existing site to re do which is currently live.

I do not want to take this site down while I buy and edit a new template, is it possible that I can edit the new template on wordpress.com and then install the theme to my existing website once I am happy with it?

Id like zero or minimal downtime of the existing site you see.

by doing it this way will i have to pay for the theme twice or can it be transfered?

Apologies for multiple questions, appreciate any help.

    Panch

You can only move exported content from WordPress.COM – there’s no access to files/database, so that’s probably not what you want to do. And you cannot use outside themes there either.

You might considering installing a separate install of WP in a sub-directory on your existing site – and creating the new site there – then switch it over when you are ready –

The site is not mine but a friends, I have been given access to their WP site but not the server, I presume I need access to the the host server to be able to continue?

Yes, you would need to create a totally separate installation of WP – and copy the site to it.

    You might look at:

(I don’t know how well it works.)

Or you could install WP on a local computer and work on it there and then move it to the server.
