New Theme, Same Domain

  • Hello, we need help with our site. We had a person develop a website using a wordpress theme (Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church theme based off of wp-bootstrap-starter) and we are no longer in contact with this person. We are hoping to transfer our site (content, domain name, etc.) to a new theme. What is the process to make that happen?

    Just change the theme; you don’t need to “transfer” anything.

    Ok, thank you Steven. I’m very new at this, how long will it take to change the theme? Should we prepare to not have a live website for several days while we transfer over?

    Well, you could create a staging website to test it all out. There are plugins for that, and your host may offer a staging site option, too. The actual process is to go to APPEARANCE->THEMES and switch the theme, then do an clean ups necessary (for colors, spacing, etc.). The content is (or at least should be) independent of the theme.
