• Was recommended this plugin by a wooCommerce technician to test a plugin conflict. From the description, thought it would be ideal to test and customise a new theme, and was intending to buy the pro version so that I could push the changes once I was happy with them. Thank goodness I didn’t.

I uploaded the new theme on the staging site (recognisable from the orange bar at the top of the screen), and activated it. However, when I moved away from the home page to see how new theme had coped with my product categories, the orange bar disappeared and I was shocked to find that I was now working on my live site, and the product categories had been affected – sub-categories appearing on the main shop page and missing images. Nothing too serious, but took me a while to sort out.

The whole point of a staging site is to be able to test things like themes in a safe environment without affecting the live site. Can’t trust this plugin, so won’t be trying it again.

First of all, I am very sorry that you had such a bad experience.

This is indeed very strange and the first time I heard something like that.

Technically it “should” not be possible to work on a live site although the orange bar is yellow and shows a path like

    domain.com/staging-site/wp-admin

The staging site is also completely independent because it is using separate tables and has no access to the live site at all!

Did you followed the tutorial from the link below and forget the step to delete the database table value “wpstg_is_staging_site”?
    https://wp-staging.com/docs/copy-staging-site-to-live-site/

That would be the one explanation why your were working on the live site even though the admin bar was yellow colored.

If you still have any issues with your live site I can offer you to check that out and fix it for you.

I am also interested in details why and how this happened.

So if you like to help me to investigate into the issue I am glad if you contact me at support [at] wp-staging.com.

I am sure that I can work it out for you.

    Cheers
    René
