• Every now and then, I notice that a new theme appears on my site without any action that I have carried out, at least deliberately. It turns out that the new theme is really the WP default theme only with its name changed to the name of my blog. Apparently, the default theme gets copied, put into its own new folder under ‘themes’ and renamed to my blog name. It’s name also appears in the theme switcher entry in my sidebar. I’d appreciate any ideas about how this can happen. Thanks. I’m using WP 1.5.2.

  • wordpress automatically creates a copy of your default theme, and renames it to be the title of your blog.

but it does it only the first time you are installing wordpress.

if you delete that folder, from wp-content / themes, it will not recreate it again.

    Thanks

    Sadish,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, WP keeps on creating a copy of the WP default theme and renaming it. It does it about once a month, quite unpredictably. I’ve had a WP blog for more than 2 years. This is new behavior. And, yes, I delete the folder, only to have it reappear some weeks later. Not a really big deal but very strange and a bit annoying.

Don’t delete the folder. Instead, just switch the theme to the one that you want.

    ifelse,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any idea as to why WP does this copy and rename thing without being requested by me to do it? I must be doing something odd every now and then to trigger this event.

for me, my site theme changes/resets to the “default” every day. Something is automatically changing the theme and stylesheet values in my mysql db (wp_options table).

    It’s driving me nuts. I’m using 2.0.2.

    any ideas?

Same situation here. It is a bug in the new version somewhere where the theme you select does not stick.

I think I may have got around this by renaming the theme folder to default.

eg: If you theme is “meangreen” just delete the default theme if you dont use it and name the “meangreen” folder to “default”.

I have only just done this so not sure if it will stop it but it may be looking for “default” for some reason so it wont stop it from changing it but it will just change to the same one – if that makes sense……

Let me know how you go
