New theme for review…

Not to be harsh, but i don’t really like it.

The main page looks very divided and scattered, the calendar seems out of place, and the links are all different colors…

When viewing a single page, the content drops down while the sidebar moves up (meanwhile the big yellow recent posts post-it disappears). The header to the commentform should not be black, and there should be some margin on the commentform- it’s too close to the left side of the screen.

The search results are no good either. If there is a failed search, the sidebar jumps across the screen. If the search brings up results, the text is black (against a dark grey background) and the links are bright orange. These are poor color choices.

My suggestion would be to drop the ads and try to find more content that you could add to the sidebar. I would center the content, and try to have some organization to the layout (like dividing lines and whatnot). I would also suggest having some sort of continuity in your link styles. It would be helpful to look into fonts, font sizes, and colors.

I do like the effect you have going on up top with the eraser erasing the page (though, i’m not crazy about the erases image). I also like the category-view.

Thanks for the feedback. lol I’ll check out everything you pointed out, I knew there were some bits to “iron out” and I wasn’t sure for the erasor either…

To be truthful I said that it was my first wordpress theme but it’s really my first real attempt at any sort of theme lol so I suppose I’ve still got a lot to learn!

Any way thanks for the feedback, I’ll try and tidy it up a bit.

what i would suggest doing is checking out themes that you like on the themeviewer, and spending some time modeling your own themes after those themes. don’t copy them, but try to emulate some of their finer aspects.

eventually you will find yourself innovating, and making beautiful themes!

Tell ya the truth, I think it’s pretty dang nice for a first time theme attempt. Nice job Ben-N, keep up the good work! ;):) Like they always say, “practice makes perfect”. ??

Ummm, I don’t see anything other that the default WP theme there. You must have switched it?

“We” need to get him hooked up with Xampp Lite so he can work on the theme on the localhost, while leaving a “live” version up on the blog lol. ??

I’ll have a look at Xampp Lite it looks useful problem is I’m on Vista so I’m not sure if it’ll work…

i’m not 100% on this, but i think xampp will work with vista!

hey, cool theme, some improvement with graphics and this could be really cool

things like more rounded edges, everything looks a little flat

and the most petty thing ever….but….your folded over page corners are actually impossible…that is to say that the horizontal is longer than the vertical, try it with a
piece of paper…!!! i guess its one of those things that you are so used to seeing, that when its different, its noticeable, to me anyway!!!

I agree with spencerp. Whether I like it or not, I’m always pleased to see somebody with a theme that they’ve obviously put a lot of work and a part of themselves in. And even though your theme isn’t for me, you obviously put a lot of thought and work into it and I give you many kudos for that. Keep up the good work!
