new text field when "local pickup" selected on checkout

I want to show a new text field on the checkout page when the customer selects “local pickup”, ideally right below that control (my client wants the customer to include a note regarding when they’ll be coming into the store). Then the contents of that field should be included in the email notification to admin. I’ve been searching online for a way to do this but have hit a wall. Can someone point me in the right direction?
