New subdomain does not establish database connection

  • My main site and all of my subdomains are in working order. However, starting last week, when I try to create a new site(subdomain) I get an “Error establishing a database connection” error. My other sites obviously are connecting, by virtue of them working.

    Any ideas are welcome!

    I should maybe mention that the WP is creating the sites just fine, but when you go to the new site you get the error message.

    If you mean the site is listed in the admin area, that doesn’t necessarily mean all is well. Check the database and see of the additional tables are created. I did have this problem before and new sites were added to the global tables, but the extra sites tables were NOT created.

    There’s a couple things that could be going on, all server related. Did you move recently? Server get upgraded?

    I checked and the tables where not created. Do I need to add them manually?

    And no, strangely, I haven’t moved or done anything different myself, and it doesn’t look like my host has made any changes…

    No you do not need to create the DB tables manually.

    If you know how, check to see that the ID you’re using with SQL has access to create tables. If you don’t, ask your host to make sure the SQL ID has full access.

    This ID is the one listed in wp-config.php as the SQL username.

    Yes, that ID has full permissions. It sounds like this problem should be server side, but I haven’t made any changes! And I’m still waiting on technical support from my host to get back to me. Frustratiiiiiing.

    FWIW, cPanel just pushed out a new update that screwed up a LOT of things. I know I’ve been slogging through it since last week :/ Server upgrades are annoying, but are a very probable cause.

    OK, guys my host got back to me and they claim the database is working fine on their end. Any more ideas? The only thing the other admin claims to have done is add a widget and change registration settings for visitors. I tried deactivating the widget, and messing with the settings with no luck.

    Again, any help is appreciated!

    Do you have phpMyAdmin or cPanel perhaps?

    When you went to check permissions, did you do it through cPanel?

    When you go into cPanel and pull up your list of SQL databases, that lists the users who are in the DB as well. You can click on the name and pull up permissions for each DB.

    Not the DB, the user ID IN the DB. (I’m being pedantic cause I can’t walk over and look at it ?? )

    Ask your host if there’s a limit on table numbers of db size?
