    Hello,

I followed the instructions in this post (https://www.monsterinsights.com/how-to-add-google-analytics-4-to-wordpress-best-way/) and added the GA4 measurement ID to my MonsterInsights Google Authentication section of the plugin.

MonsterInsights had already automatically created a new GA4 property for me, so I used that to input. However, once I did, a new web stream was created in my Google Analytics. Now there are TWO MonsterInsights GA4 web streams. And the information I input (the measurement ID for the first stream) is not showing up in the plugin. Instead, it’s the information for the second stream that was just generated that appears.

So I have a few issues.

    1. There are now two Google Analytics 4 Data Streams showing up in my Google Analytics. Should I delete one? And if so, shouldn’t it be the newly created one since the one you guys automatically created first will have more info in it, right?
    2. The measurement ID and API Secret match the 2nd web stream, not the first. I can’t seem to change it in the plug-in.
    3. Would it be better if I just created my own GA4 property and deleted all of these MonsterInsights web streams in my Google Analytics?

Thank you in advance for your help!

    Hi?@chelseakbaxter,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the confusion here.

When you connect MonsterInsights to your Google Analytics property, we’ll check if there’s already a data stream that matches your WordPress Site Address (URL) exactly. If it exists, we’ll use it and send data to it. If it doesn’t exist yet, we’ll automatically create it for you with “MonsterInsights” in the label of the data stream.

Currently, it’s not possible to choose a specific data stream to connect to as it’s all automated on our end. We also help insert the measurement protocol API secret key as well after authentication.

We do recommend deleting any extra data streams, specifically the ones that MonsterInsights isn’t using to send data into your property. For example, when I visit your website, I can see the measurement ID G-E8H1Z1MG8P being used by MonsterInsights. So in this case, you can delete other data streams that have a different measurement ID.

To delete a stream, please follow the steps here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9304776?hl=en#delete

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks!

Thank you so much for the help! I wasn’t sure which Data Stream to delete since both were MonsterInsights. But I went ahead and deleted the one you suggested.

Originally, when I set this up in my WordPress site, Dual Tracking was set up. But now it isn’t there. I no longer see the “UA-XXX…” or the “Dual Tracking” text in my MonsterInsights>Settings page. Is dual tracking ending on July 1st and maybe that’s why I don’t see it?

Also, do I need to create a separate GA4 property in Google Analytics? (As mentioned in this video: https://www.monsterinsights.com/how-to-add-google-analytics-4-to-wordpress-best-way/) Or, since MI created one for me, can I stick with that MI property and data stream and not worry about creating a GA4 property? (Can I rename it since the property name has “MonsterInsights” in it because MI created it.) I’m still getting notices that say, “This property is not fully set up. You can complete the recommended setup checklist in the Setup Assistant.” I was wondering if there was something else I was supposed to do within Google Analytics. (Or a tutorial from MonsterInsights on how to step through the Set up Assistant so it can properly collect data on MI’s side.)

Thank you again for your help!

    Hi @chelseakbaxter,

Yes correct, since Google Analytics 4 has replaced Universal Analytics now, we’ve made adjustments to our plugin to accommodate the change.

No new property is needed in your case, and you can rename your existing Google Analytics property as needed at Admin ? Property Settings.

To dismiss the migration notice of “This property is not fully set up. You can complete the recommended setup checklist in the Setup Assistant”, we recommend switching to your UA property at analytics.google.com, then going to Admin ? GA4 Setup Assistant, and clicking on the Disconnect button. Here is a screenshot: https://a.supportally.com/i/CPA0pH

Once completed, the notice will disappear.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions!

    Thank you.

Ok thank you. I completed the setup checklist. I renamed my GA4 property. I need some clarification on the screenshot you sent (https://a.supportally.com/i/CPA0pH) because I only get the “completed GA4 set up” message when I’m in the UA part of analytics. And it looks like if I click “disconnect,” I’d be disconnecting my GA4 property since that’s what is listed under the Connected Property area.

    Thank you again!

    Hi @chelseakbaxter,

Sure thing. Using Google’s migration options to get started with a GA4 property is helpful for those not using MonsterInsights. But for users who are already using MonsterInsights, it’s not needed.

The connection under analytics.google.com ? Admin ? GA4 Setup Assistant is why the notices are appearing. Clicking on the disconnect button will not affect the configuration within your WordPress site at Insights ? Settings ? Google Authentication.

I hope that helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks!

Ok thank you so much! And if I don’t do anything, it will be fine, too right? It’s just to get rid of the notification when I’m in Google UA?

    Hi @chelseakbaxter,

Yes, as long as you’re tracking into the newer property type, you’re all set.

Let me know if there’s anything else.

    Thanks!
