Akismet is a great plugin, I use it on all my sites (currently 13) and it’s really good at spam detection.

Lately I’ve been noticing comments that are not detected as spam that have a non-existent or private Facebook URL. Here are some examples:
    URL: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003469637029
    URL: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003469729816
    URL: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003469616307

To be honest I don’t even know how these work because there is no URL in the body of the text. Here’s an example:
    Comment:
i think i’ve read that one before in the past if i reemebmr correctly. it sounds familiar anyway. i actually have the links over on the right of my blog under the interesting blogs section. it has your pages, some friends pages, and then anything dealing with financial blogs are the others as i haven’t found any others yet to include. i probably should include some virginia wine ones but i haven’t gotten around to deciding which ones. or perhaps i should probably split them up into different sections.

I just thought you might want to know about this pattern and perhaps add it to the plugin. I currently have 7 of these in my comment list for one site.

    Best regards,
    Alison

  • I’ve found the same in a client’s site that I have just inherited. The reason there is because they are using MailChimp to add the email address before commenting. If you look at your users probably you will find those addresses there. I have not solved the problem yet, but I will change the way that the email is entered, as it is no used for anything else.
