So basically I followed this tutorial and things went well but not for very long. I used Hostgator and NameCheap with the goal of making a wordpress website. My first problem was locking myself out of QuickInstall by getting impatient and resetting my password and… ugh… doesn’t matter, I think I’ve resolved that. So I’ve got WordPress installed on hostgator and can see all the files and databases etc, but I have already re-installed WordPress once after deleting the first batch of database/public_html files.

My second problem was that my website (https://www.missoulajobs.net/) was still redirecting to NameCheap.com saying that it had just been bought. So went back into NameCheap and it looked like I just didn’t save when I entered Namesevers from hostgator. So I fixed that.

Finally, with wordpress installed and the namesevers all hooked up… I can’t get to my wp-admin page OR my website, which doesn’t exist. I just get, “Server not found. Firefox can’t find the server at https://www.missoulajobs.net.” for both.

Is this because: 1) I just need to wait for NameCheap to update my Namesevers? 2) Did my deleting public_html files and databases then reinstalling wordpress cause this? 3) Or is that I am trying to do all of this on an old computer the cause (Mac OSX 10.5.8 and the most recent Firefox and Safari it can run)?

  • I get “Error establishing a database connection” at https://www.missoulajobs.net/

Changing name servers can take up to 72 hours to be consistently seen worldwide pointing to their new location.

    Hey missoulajobz –

    1. Thanks for checking out the guide (I wrote it). Sorry it sounds like it got confusing.

    2. I just checked the site – and it looks like it’s loading. Was it just the issue with the nameservers?

Thanks for the replies. The problem resolved itself when I reinstalled wordpress.
