• I have configured multisite and added my second site. It shows under the SuperAdmin menu for sites but when I go to the dashboard site it’s not showing under sites for me to start working on it. Any ideas? Also….If I go directly to my domain name I’m getting this:
    Index of /
    .ftpquota
    cgi-bin/
    Apache mod_fcgid/2.3.5 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at https://www.dogscancerjourney.com Port 80

Should my “path” under the site info be the same as the new domain or should it be my “original” site name?

    Thanks!!

From your other post (cause these are probably related).

I have configured multisite and added my second site. It shows under the SuperAdmin menu for sites but when I go to the dashboard site it’s not showing under sites for me to start working on it. Should my “path” under the site info be the same as the new domain or should it be my “original” site name? Does the new domain have to have a subdirectory URL (www.myoriginaldomain.com/new domain) because I listed the domain and the path under the “site” as just https://www.newdomain.com…..I’m confused now. PLEASE HELP!

You’re trying to map a domain to your MultiSite install. What plugin did you use to do this?

You made a physical folder on the server for the domain. You do not need one.

Sorry for the repeat Ipstenu…….new here.
Andrea-thanks for the reply. Do you mean the file in my cpanel under “web root” that is titled that domain? Sorry, I’m not very computer savvy and I had to have my webhost help me get this installed. ??

I talked again to my webhost (hostgator) and they did not know what file I was referring to. They wanted me to clarify to you that the domain I’m adding to my network is an “add on” domain. I don’t know if that makes any difference but they said there was no folder they could see that I should omit…..?????

Yes, I can see what you’re trying to do.

you need to PARK the domain on top of your wordpress install IF the wordpress install running multisite is in the public_html folder.

Yes my multisite is in my wp-content folder under public_html. Sorry to be so computer illit but how do I “park” the domain on top of the wordpress install? Thanks again for your reply!

Hi. I’m in the same boat as kreview and am equally IT stupid. Could you folks please respond to us as if we know nothing, which is in fact exactly what we know. Andrea_r, your answer looks to me to be THE ANSWER, but when I read “PARK your domain on top of your wordpress install” I suddenly find myself back in a dark, gloomy forest of ignorance (my own ignorance I mean). I know that I can go into my domains account at GoDaddy and “park” my domain, but how do I park it “on top of my wordpress install”? What does that mean? Please don’t stop trying to help, your karma will be greatly enhanced if you get kreview and I through this ??

Sorry to be so computer illit but how do I “park” the domain on top of the wordpress install?

Go to your control panel at hostgator. Remove the add-on domain you made. Then click the button that says “Park a domain”.

At GoDaddy it is different. CPanel is a web host control panel that a majority of shared hosts means. “parking” in that sense is different than what godaddy means. in this case, it means, plunk it right on top of the same folder, so the server sends it there. I told kreview that, becasue I know what host he is on and what control panel they use.

I’m not gonna lie cybercupidco….I feel a little better that someone else is having the same problem. ;P
Andrea….THANK YOU for checking back in and continuing to help. I can see by the support message board you are seriously busy! I’m going to do what you said now and will check back in with results!

After working with hostgator support for over an hour trying to get this done (they parked it on WP but it still didn’t appear in my dashboard “sites”) I have given up. I’ve spent DAYS trying to get a second site started and I’ve decided to just start a new site elsewhere. I do appreciate your help though.

but it still didn’t appear in my dashboard “sites”

you have to actually “Add a site” in the super admin menu. then domain map it. It needs to exist in the backend of WordPress, even before you change the domain name.

    Did you read these instructions?
    https://ottopress.com/2010/wordpress-3-0-multisite-domain-mapping-tutorial/

Hi Kreview and Andrea_j: I’m sorry if I disappeared but I’m in China right now (and often) so I’m on a different sleep pattern than you guys.

First kreview, don’t give up. This is likely something we need to understand for repeated use down the road. Hang in there!

Andrea_j: So are you really a saint that you are on here helping so many people with their problems or are you associated with WP in some way. Either way your assistance is very welcome and appreciated, believe me. I’m going to go read the 2 items you indicated and work my way through this. I’ll get back to you and let you both know how I made out.

    Thanks.

I volunteer here. ?? 99% of the mods here do too.
