    New wordpress multisite using subdomains

I have created a new site in the network admin and in ‘edit’ but I can’t see the dashboard – I get a 404 on https://mysite.patbell.co.uk/wp-admin/

There is no wp-admin folder in /pubic_html/mysite.

Should I be creating the subdomain myself or is wordpress supposed to do it (tried both and neither works)?

I have followed the codex. .htaccess is correct and in /public_html – putting it in /public_html/mysite gives an internal server error.

Can someone give me some clues here?

There shouldn’t be a mysite folder, actually.

You do it, but you point the subdomain to /public_html/ not /pubic_html/mysite

When I create my subdomain with my host I have to put the name of the subdomain.rootdomain. This create a folder under public_html. Whne you say point the subdomain – do you mean somewhere in wordpress?

I am just following the codex. The network dashboard lists the sites I have created but the dashboard gives a 404 error s I can’t create them.

I have tried not creating a subdomain and creating and pointing to it or just to the root. normallivingwithibs.patbell.co.uk now points to patbell.co.uk but …/wp-admin gives 404.

My database does have all the requisite tables in afaics. What step(s) am I missing or is it my host?

further, this is the exact error I get when clicking my dashboard for normallivingwithibs site

The requested URL /normallivingwithibs/wp-admin/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I have tried pointing my subdomain to patbell.co.uk and get the above message. If I leave it pointing to public_html/normallivingwithibs I get the error below

The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

On a different site, if I delete the folder as you say it shouldn’t exist I get
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

[email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Right and I’m telling you not to do that. DO NOT create a folder under public_html. If you’re using cpanel, just delete the subdomain name and it will become public_html

If you can’t figure out how that works, ask your webhost ?? They know.

I know we have two threads going here but I’ll respond here and hopefully we’ll merge later ??

That was the problem! Phew this has taken a long time, I hope the codex will have that info added, I’ll tell my host support too – seems obvious now but I had been accepting the host’s default, trying redirect, all sorts.

    This is sorted.
