New sidebar widgets not appearing

Hi there, I’m finishing up a blogger to wordpress migration for a client and have everything *almost* in place. I’m trying to add a simple text widget to the sidebar and though it allows me to do this through the back end, when I go to the front page (and even if I refresh), the new widget won’t appear. The widgets I added several days ago are appearing, but no new ones will show up!

I tried this with a text widget first, and not even the widget title appears in the sidebar. Then I tried it with a widget from a plugin, and that doesn’t appear either.

I’ve never seen this before. Ack! (please help.)
