• Hi,

since Google decided that the “Review” type isn’t helpful anymore, we need to use for our WP theme and plugin reviews a different type.
What would you advice to use?
Review is a subtype from “Creative works” just like MediaObject. Should I go for the product type now? This doesn’t feel right. Google says they like to make the snippets more useful for searchers, but a review with stars and the reviewer name sounds still useful to me.

    regards
    Olaf

    Hello @finalwebsites

Google has updated the schema markup for review schema; that’s why you are seeing warning or error for schema markup. We are following the changes carefully, and we are working on this new schema update.

About your query, if your page is a product page then you can apply product schemas but if you write a review for the product then it should be review schema.

We have already updated our premium plugin with this new Google update which have the product as a review item in the review schema.

Soon we will update it on our free plugin.

    Hi Uttam,

    thanks for the information.

Actually I’m surprised about your advice regarding the “Review” type.
This type is not supported by Google anymore:
    https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2019/09/making-review-rich-results-more-helpful.html

Right now I would say the “Product” type is the only one we could use. The “Offer” sub type is not required and the whole structure looks mostly like the old “review” type.

I really like to see a working code snippet for a “new” version “review” type.
    Do you have one?

    Hi Uttam,

I’m sure you will offer a solution very soon, but actually wasn’t that my question. What should I do in the meantime? Just waiting? This is not how it works for me. Right now I will use the Product type and than I will add the review as a sub type.

    Hello @finalwebsites,

I am fully understanding your concern you want to use product schemas instead of review schemas. As I have already mentioned that you can apply product schema if the page is a product page.

Also, the issue we have facing about reviewItem type is that previously google accepts things as a reviewItem but now it accepts specific reviewItem like the product, business etc.

So if you can use product schemas on page if you want.

    Regards,
    Uttam
