Hi. I want for users to be auto logged in after registering. I’ve checked the right settings, but the code seems to be failing somewhere.

In the Global Settings “User Accounts” page I have the option “WP Registration Auto Approval” set to On. I have the “Send user Activation link in email” option set to off. I’ve saved and refreshed this page multiple times to ensure the settings were saved.

I can verify that after signing up with a new account, the new user is not sent a verification email (as desired). After pressing the signup button the screen refreshes, then the “Thanks for signing up” message I set displays, a second or two passes and the screen refreshes again, and then the user is redirected to the default my-profile page as expected. However, after being redirected to this page, the user is not logged in and an “error you must be logged in” message shows up and displays the login screen. I’ve tried with multiple different email addresses in incognito as well as regular windows (to see if it was some cache related issue) and get the same result every time.

Neither my WP installation or theme is producing an error log at these events. I do have the Recaptcha feature your plugin offers enabled but it’s functioning properly. I also tried deactivating all plugins besides Profile Grid and signing up for a new account and the results were the same. The user can then, re enter their information and are able to login after singing up, but that sucks. The point of having Recaptcha enabled and no email activation link is the instant gratification for the user.

I remember having an issue similar to this with another plugin some years ago. I remember having to dig into the code and adjust something where the plugin author’s code wasn’t handling WP’s stupid cookie testing or something. Then getting them to update their code was like pulling teeth. I hope that’s not the case here and I don’t have to dig into core code again. I’m baffled as to what could be causing this. Is there something I’m missing or could be checking? Still a huge fan of this amazing plugin. Thank you.
