I am using a CSV file to add quite a few new users to the database in my WrodPress 4.3.1 site. As a test i just added one fictitious name to the list. The plugin imported the file without any errors. The list that followed had the new user in it. But the actual user list found under “Users” did not have the new user. It did not import the new user that I had added to the CSV file. There was a username, password and email and a few other meta fields and nothing came over. What am I missing?

    Many thanks,
    Houston

    Houston,

Did it work with test users and then with “real” users it didn’t work? That’s strange.

Please use the test.csv and then fill it with your own data.

    Thanks,

    Javier

How does the software know when to add someone as apposed to updating teir record? I am assuming it uses an email address but want to confirm?

So I just discovered why it was not working and that is because I missed the part about the Username and email needing to be the first 2 columns. Once I made that change it worked but I have another question.

When I do import, I get a few records that show that the user already exists. The whole point of the import it to add new users and also, correct information in a users record. So will this import not overwrite existing user data?

    Many thanks,

Am I right when I say that it will not let you change the username but it will let you change any other meta field?

    The username is the reference.

    Please read the documentation.

If the cell has a data this is overwritten. If not, it can be deleted or ignored (there is an option for this).

    I don’t understand.

“Am I right when I say that it will not let you change the username but it will let you change any other meta field? “

    You replied: I don’t understand.

The fact that the import keys off the username answers this question.

    Thanks for all your help.
