New Posts, Updates and Loading Blog Very Slow

Can anyone help with this?

I’ve noticed over the past few weeks, when I write a new post or do an update (and just now as I’m trying to load my blog in the browser) it takes an age for the thing to appear. Sometimes it times out altogether.

I can access the server with my ftp program and also get into the control panel through my web host almost instantly.

Is this a WordPress problem, a server problem or is it more likely to have something to do with the database?

I’ve been running the blog since March 2006 and this speed problem seems to be getting progressively worse as time goes by.

I’m running the current version of WordPress. This happens on all browsers (IE, FireFox and Safari).

Any thoughts/comments would be much appreciated.
