New Post problems – Error 404 on previews, buttons not clickable

  • My site was working fine, but today it’s not working.

    I didn;t install any new plugins or change anything whatsoever.

    When I add new post and preview, I get an error 404 page not found.
    I noticed the permalink options on the add page has also dissapeared.
    If I click screen options on same page nothing happens, If I click featured image and try to select file (for thumbnail), nothing happens.
    Media library in the add post page also doesn’t show the image thumbnails anymore.

    I’ve no idea what to do.

    I have disabled all plugins and no help, I am using a custom theme I made myself that has been working great up until today.

    The wierd thing is, If i save draft on the post, then preview it will work fine, but the selecting thumbnails still wont work. the select file button does nothing.

    Anyone have any suggestions what it could be?

  • Have you tried:

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress.

    No I want to have those as a very last resort, I am using a complicated setup and doing any of those will mess everything up and probably take a good couple of hours to fix, and my site gets a lot of traffic.

    Ok it wasn’t the theme.

    If I reset the plugins folder, will that reset all the settings I have edited for those plugins?

    Also – I logged into my wordpress admin using my mobile phone for the first time ever today, and that’s when the problems seemed to have occured. I have tried logging out everywhere but no fix, is this known bug?

    Ok I’ve done everything you said, didn’t take as long as I had thought to fix it all.

    anyway, it did not fix anything. same problem
