• New plugin released: Multi Column Category List

This plugin generates an alphabetical listing of your WordPress categories in multiple columns. You can choose the number of columns to display, with an option to split up the list of categories by letter. It also supports the use of a custom header to help separate the categories. For example, you could have it say ‘Topics: A’ and then list the topics that start with ‘A’, etc. The category list can easily be added to any post or page with the trigger text, or called directly from a template file. A CSS file is also included for easy style changes.

This plugin was written for WordPress 2.1. It has not been tested in earlier versions.

xinfo: I will keep the idea in mind ??

I just uploaded version 1.1 as well, which has an option for javascript click-to-expand lists if anyone is interested.

interesting plugin. usefull if one has few categories with some sub-categories.

unfortunately i cannot use it. i have 4 parent categories with about 40 subs each, and if i want to split one categ in two columns i have a lot (a lot!) of work to do adding categs i do not want to show.

is it possible that when i add a category i don’t want to show, to “take” its children with it so i dont have to add them one by one?

is there other way to split categories in 2 or more columns?

I split my categories into two columns just using basic PHP. I have my parent categories in the left sidebar with children turned off and when you click the children appear in the right sidebar relating to the parent category. No plugins required.
