Since plugin update, a new notice has popped up in plugins area (see below). There is an option to connect site but no option to dismiss notice. This is site is years old, and already has tax and shipping set up with prices excluding taxes and tax rates added to woocommerce, and then use flexible shipping. It already works perfectly and I can see see tax amount, excluding tax amount etc. What will happen if connect? Will this adjust my existing text and shipping settings?

  • Hi there @nanor ??

New Notice to connect site to activate WooCommerce Shipping & Tax

Thank you for reaching out about this. From what I gather, your existing tax and shipping options are tip-top currently, and this notice started appearing in the plugins screen. Am I getting this?

You mention there is no option to dismiss it. Can you please share a screenshot of what you see at that screen (at Plugins > All Plugins, as I understand)? That will help us understand the issue. Here’s how to make a screenshot:

Sidenote: the WooCommerce Shipping & Tax plugin has last been updated some 3 weeks ago, therefore, it is odd that you see this message now. Could you clarify further what updates took place at the same time, please?

We await your response to better assist you.

Yes, it must of started appearing when the plugn was updated. The notice appears in the orders section of woocommerce and the plugins section.

I cannot seem to upload a screenshot image here to the support section. The exact text on the notice is:

    Hi @nanor

What will happen if connect? Will this adjust my existing text and shipping settings?

The support documentation below covers the reasons why you’d want to connect WooCommerce Shipping & Tax?to your WordPress.com account:

    https://woo.com/document/woocommerce-shipping-and-tax/woocommerce-shipping/#why-do-i-need-to-install-and-connect-to-jetpack

Regarding the notice, I believe you could remove it from the database, but can you share a screenshot so I can check this further for you?

I recommend https://snipboard.io for easily sharing screenshots – please follow the instructions on that page, then paste the URL in this thread.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

I know how to take screenshots and paste them but this support forum does not permit pasting an image or adding an image that is not from a URL online. There is nothing in the screenshot apart form the text which I copied/pasted in the previous comment, soit should be quite clear what the notice message is.

We are already using the tax in WooCommerce, and flexible shipping plugin for calulating shipping. The documentation does not state if connecting will adjust our existing setup or not, which we do not want to happen.

    Hi there,

    Thank you for your reply.

I was just wondering as to where this notice appears on the backend, but don’t worry. As previously mentioned, you should be able to delete the notification from the database because it looks like you cannot dismiss it from the notice itself for some reason (perhaps you can try after disabling all other plugins except WooCommerce and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax).

I hope this helps lead you in the correct direction. I’m going to leave the thread open for the time being, though, to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and can help you out.

    Best regards

When I try to connect, it goes to a 503 request error.

    503
    Request Error
The page you requested generated a server error and could not be processed. You might try refreshing the page. If you continue to get this message, you should contact the site owner.

Hey there , @nanor. I’m happy to help you.

The 503 error you encountered while attempting to connect might be due to a temporary issue or connectivity problem. I’d suggest trying again later or refreshing the page to see if the connectivity issue resolves. If the problem persists, it might be worth checking with your hosting provider to ensure there are no server-related issues affecting the connection process.

Another thing that might cause this error is a conflict with theme or plugin. So you might want to do a conflict test.

To test, you’ll first want to change the theme on your site to Storefront, then check to see if the issue is still present. If that resolves the issue, you’ll want to get in touch with your theme’s developer and see if they have an update or fix for you.

If changing the theme doesn’t help, you’ll want to deactivate all plugins except for WooCommerce and WooCommerce Shipping & Tax and see if you are able to connect. If that fixes the problem, re-enable the other plugins one by one (gradually), checking after each, to see where any other issue happens.

You can find more about this in this guide.

I hope this was clarifying. If you face any issues or have any questions, please let us know so we can assist you further.

    Have a wonderful day!
