• Hey guys,

I would love some feedback on a new movie review website I have just launched as a new hobby. I have only posted about 8 reviews at the moment just while I finish up the site design and write more reviews. I plan to keep a steady stream of reviews going in the New Year, at the moment I am just focusing on the design and development.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

Well no responses after a week, thats either really good or really bad. Any comments would be much appreciated, its still in very early stages and has alot of work still to go.

Yeah very nice Tafts, like you I hadnt heard about Harry Brown until i saw it and loved it.

Your site looks great, no patter just straight to the reviews clear and concise. I like it ??

I like the site. I also like the movies you talk about. I’m a big horror movie fan.

The site layout and such looked good. I didn’t care for the dark brown background with the lighter brown text – it was hard to read the text.

I think it would look better with a header.

Looks like a great start. I especially like your inclusion of the “must see films” link at the top. Aside from the suggestions of other members, I’d also recommend making the appearance of the site seem more open and inviting. The sidebars are difficult to read.

Really sharp, crisp looking site. I read a couple of the reviews, and very well done.

How did you do the rounded corners, I really like the Web 2.0 look

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

@gina@VWWerks, @sprocket I agree that the sidebars were a little tough to read, I have made the text a little lighter and broke up the right hand sidebar a little to make it easier to read and understand.

@oldwaverider thanks, the rounded corners were achieved by using a background images and a bit of CSS.

@hornitosmonster, I had thought about a header but I am a real fan of minimal designs and I figured the title of the site and the current header pretty much explained exactly what to expect from the site so a big header was kinda pointless and that way I could get straight into the content.

since brevity is part of your site’s idea, a handy thumbs up/stars system would be pretty cool too.

@sprocket, yeah I had thought about adding something like that for a while, but nothing really seemed to fit. I’ll look into a simple Thumbs up system, which I think would work better than a star rating, if I were going to try one.
