I have recently upgraded my 123-reg cloud hosted website to WordPress on 123-reg. (Please see https://www.michael-jenkins.co.uk.) Most of the system works, except for a number of items revolving around photos.

    1. I am unable to upload photos using the New Media option. The only way that I can get photos into posts is by ftp upload followed by hyperlinking the file into the post. The result is that I am unable to change my profile picture or customize the header.

A number of older posts suggested changing the permissions for the directories. This works, but I have to modify every photo once it has uploaded. the new uploads do not automatically inherit the permission from the folder.

  • What kind of error message are you getting when trying to upload the photos?

What are your file permissions set as for the uploads folder? (numeric value)

I’m not sure why but something that help clear up some random issues when we moved to a new host was to go to the Dashboard > Settings > Permalink. Click “Post Name” (which is what it looks like you have it set as), even if it is already checked, click it and then save changes.

I get a “Broken Link” icon. If I click on edit the file I get a blank box.

The folder and file permission reads 600.

Following an instruction, earlier, I have unticked the box instructing WordPress to keep each photo in monthly files. Before I did this the permission was set to 744.

If I insert a picture into a post, the HTML link shows up, but no photo. If I click on the link, I get Error 403:
    Forbidden

You don’t have permission to access /wp-content/uploads/Closed-for-Lunch.jpg on this server.

I have managed to update my profile photo. But I can still only add photos to posts and pages using the hyperlink to a non-WordPress directory.

Can you go to your FTP and change the file permission to 705 and see if that helps?

this helped me fix this problem – it’s so random! Thank goodness for these support forums, this website business is tricky.

Nothing worked for me. I discussed this with my hosting provider and they changed the permissions for me because I could find no way to do this.
