• I just signed up for BlueHost 2 weeks ago, and the installation of WordPress was included. I did nothing.

I’ve read lots of forums and instructions on creating directories, using Fillezilla, for installation, changing usernames, etc, but in my case it did not seem to be necessary.

    1. Did I miss anything important by letting BlueHost do it for me?
    2. I am ready to buy a premium theme and wonder WHERE should that be installed? I don’t know where my WordPress is… not on my computer, somewhere in cyber space.

What should I do? Re-install it manually so i have it on my computer? Move it? How?

Please, any help is welcome. I am really not skilled in this – as you can see. Thanks.

  • You say WP is installed for you, where is it located (url)?
Did you get FTP information from Bluehost?

WP is installed, I’ve played with it, added some simple plugins, tried creating new pages, etc.

Here is how I go to it:

Also, my BlueHost c-pannel is at

I got two emails from BlueHost, I would gladly enclose them here, if that’s what you are asking.

    thanks

Never put your login credentials on the www! I suggest you change them asap (and I can’t look there anyway since I’m behind a proxy at work).

Well, you’ve got a nice little WP installed indeed and it is installed in the root of the domain. Did you try to login to WP? Since you have the latest 2.8.6 you can use the “dashboard” to upload new themes, plugins and the like. You can also change the default username “admin” (create a new user, make it an administrator and delete “admin”) and passwords, so you’re well on the way.

It would have been easy if you got FTP access to your part of the server, but if your control panel has a file manager, that will work too. Just have a look around in the WP administration and the control panel and then let us know what it is that you want to do.

And again, change the login to your control panel, you don’t want the world to be able to poke around there!

You are right, I completely ingnored the fact that it’s a public forum.

I love the WP, I’m excited to start building it. My question was this:

Where do I download the premium Headway theme I want to buy?

Also, is it safer to have the WP in the public domain that BlueHost put it in, or should I try to move everythign on my computer? What if it crashes?

    thank you for the help.

Moderators, please help this fellow out and get his login information removed asap.

As for getting your theme uploaded, just log into your WordPress admin dashboard and go to Appearance, then to “Add New Themes” then use the “Upload” option at the top of the page to browse your computer for your downloaded theme, then upload it. Once that is done you can activate the theme.

You cannot move WordPress onto your own computer, or else it won’t be online. You can keep a backup on your computer in case something is lost, though. There is a “Backups” icon in your BlueHost cPanel which you can use to get a full backup, or to just backup your WordPress database if you choose.

I don’t know the theme, how did you hear of it? And why would you buy a theme when there are plenty of free ones?

Just think what you want to do with the blog so you can tell what kind of theme you want in colours, number of columns, etc.

The WP files are fine where they are, WP is the software for your blog and if you want to run WP on your PC you’ll have to make it into a server and use your PC as a server (which means, running 24/7 and you wouldn’t need Bluehost no more). Of course, the Bluehost server could crash, but the change that your PC will is larger and Bluehost will have a backup. Like I said, WP is fine where it is. Things that you do want on your PC are not-standard-WP-files, such as a theme, plugins, images, etc. You can all just have them on your computer and upload them with the WP built-in function. “Posts” and “pages” you make will be stored in the database, so it is wise to make a database backup every once in a while (and/or use the WP export function).

But just start with fooling around a bit and see what WP does and what it doesn’t and discover what direction you want to head with it.

    Enjoy.

[edit] somebody was ahead of me, so you have some double info now.

Thank you Ganglieri and bh_WP_fan for your help. I am safe, I changed the passwords. Your explanations hepled, I know what I’ll do next.

btw: Headway is new and very different, from what I read, and since I’m lacking CSS skils, it will save me lots of time, more than what I’ll spend for it. I found it by searching themes with good SEO.

    Thank you.
