• Hello WP I have been using the 5 minute install for about 5 hours now.

I have updated the config file with all of my data to the best of my knowledge. The MySQL database is operational on my host.

I have logged into it with the password I out into the file.

I keep receiving this error message when I attempt to use the log in URL

    “Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.”

    Plz assist.

  • Assist what?
If you cannot answer 200% (two hundred is not a typo!) a sound YES to those questions… there is nothing we can do.

    A HUGE 200%

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    YES
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    YES
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?
    YES

Once again I am able to login through my webhost control panel.

I have checked and double checked my settings…

Also I see in your 5 min install on the wp-config.php file you have a path in brackets [path/path/path/path]

Is this line of cone supposed to be on the wp-config file before the .php code starts?

    Ryan

Nope. The only thing you have to do: edit the wp-config-sample file and save it as wp-config. By editing I mean to put correctly (without typos and spaces) the 4 required pieces of info.

What you can do via the host’s control panel… doesn’t really matter.

Was the DB user added to the database? Has the user all the privileges?
Are you sure it is “localhost” and not a servername?

Despite what you think – in 99.99% it is user error in editing the config file!
