    Hello to the team!

    This is s (seriously) simple feedback thread about 1.19. I just updated to 1.19 on my staging site and I really like what you did with the new html5 player, thanks!

    Here are a few questions/ideas for future updates:
    – the volume control is gone: do you plan on adding it later?
    – do you plan to add all the extra info that was displayed with the regular player (guests, recording date,…)?
    – I understand you want to promote Castos (congrats on the new name!) but an easy way to upload our own logo would be nice, especially when you host your files yourself. ??

    That’s it for now. Again, this player is a great idea and I love the design!

    Fred

    Hi Fred,

    Thanks a ton for the feedback and encouraging words. We’ve put a bunch of time into this release and hope it’s a step in the right direction for everyone.

    We took the volume control out to promote a more simplistic design, and the same could be said for the guest, recording date, etc. as we really wanted to give an option for a very modern, minimalistic feed. We are looking at including the meta info that you’re mentioning in the compact player in a future release. Good feedback there for sure.

    I would say the same for the castos branding on the Full Featured player…we hope to give you the option of a really premium level player (for free, but with our watermark) or a compact player if you want to keep things simple. Tough balance to strike for sure, but we’ll definitely take your suggestion into account as we iterate the current design.

    If there’s anything else we can do to help with your show or the plugin just let us know.

    Hi Craig,

    Thanks for your reply. I completely understand the choices you made (minimalist approach + logo) and while writing I was wondering where the meta would be able to fit without breaking the design. No easy answer on that one. ^^;

    Thanks again. ??

    I just updated and I had total site failure on both the main and the admin sides. Here is the error message:

    Fatal error: Class ‘Self’ not found in /home3/f1nn3g4n/public_html/_sites/restitutio/wp-content/plugins/seriously-simple-podcasting/includes/class-ssp-frontend.php on line 114

    I went to this file and this is the code:
    // Apply filters to the style guide so that users may swap out colours of the player
    Self::$style_guide = apply_filters( ‘ssp_filter_style_guide’, Self::$style_guide );

    I commented out the second line and it works fine now.

    Hi @seanpfinnegan

    Thank you for the message. We’ve not seen this on any of our testing but are looking into the cause of this now and will push an update ASAP.

    Hello Craig, we haven’t updated our SSP yet, as the new player doesn’t show ‘play in new window’, ‘download’ etc (as far as I can see), and we quite like those in our stats – how does the compact player affect the stats package?
    Thanks
    Dave

    @djsilverfox Hi! For info, the “download” option is still there (it’s an icon) and its stats are still recorded as before. ??

    Hi Dave, thanks for the message. We’re going to be adding back in the Play In New Window and Download links below the compact player probably next week, based on feedback like this and some others. So if you’re keen to keep those parts of your stats then I’d just wait on the plugin update then and you’d be able to use the new compact player.

    Hope that helps clarify things a bit.

    Thanks Fred & Craig, – I don’t see the new standard player even though I’ve upgraded on another site. I do see it when I look at the image on the Castos blog post, but it’s the just the old usual player if I don’t tick the advanced one. Maybe I have a theme conflict…

    Any ideas?
    Dave

    I just tried on another site with 2017 theme, still no new standard player.
    I must be missing something.

    Dig the new look. Very clean, my player seems to be shrunk compared to the example that was sent.

    Hi @mtnweekly

    Thanks for the message. I’m not able to see the player on the link that you sent over…did you change the player settings on your end potentially? If it looks shrunk it may just be that the width of the area that the player is displaying in is more narrow than the example we sent.

    If you have a link or screenshot of the player that you’d like to send over feel free.

    Craig
