New hotel site review please

  • Hi,

    I’m fairly new to WordPress but I’ve found myself in a situation where I am developing a site for a hotel. It’s not 100% finished yet, but it’s close, and I can see a number of problems which are beyond my ability.

    The site is in a temporary home:
    ccbs.ie/sandhouse127

    Please note, using www. will lead to a blank screen.

    My main concerns right now are:
    – display in IE8. This fails entirely.
    – main nav menu in ipad/tablet – it runs over two lines.
    – slow load time
    – the logo needs to be redesigned.

    The theme is modified from Sixty One by CSSIgniters, who have provided fantastic support throughout the process.

    Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    is the theme a responsive theme?

    Also when you are done creating the site you might want to try using a plugin that caches the page to increase load time. wp Super Cache is a very good one I heard.

    Yes it is responsive, and uses a responsive menu plugin.

    I should be migrating the site to its permanent home in a few days. I’ll add cache then. Thanks for the tip.

    Hi, IE8 is a trash, it is a very old browser, but some people are still using it.

    I think, more space between menu and slider will effect the overall aesthetic of your site.

    – You can use this custom css:

    Hi,

    Thanks for the input. I added the extra bit of padding for a trial. I have yet to add booking engine code so I think I’ll leave the header alone for a little while as the booking code may be added there.

    For whatever technology and common sense defying reasons, around 1/6th of visitors to the site are using IE8, so it has to be dealt with.
