  • 1. Create Pages in admin Write > Write Page (not post!)

    2. In your admin panel.

And get familiar with the tool you are using before asking basic questions.

I got most everything working except one piece .. and that is, I go to write > Write Page and not post … that’s great, but that puts the link as a page inside the blog itself, I would like to make a link going to my forum which is an external site.

Where to go from here, and just for the record .. I spent a couple of hours or better trying to figure it out .. after reading your initial reply.

I am sorry to sound so ignorant with something evidently, so basic. I am learning with each step.

    Thanks again

You never said in your initial post that you wanted an external link in the top menu. Since I know that 99% of the themes use Pages to create those top horizontal menus – I gave you the obvious answer.

For what you want (and it helps if you describe your goal in the first post) you need a plugin. Go up > Extend > Plugins and search for something like redirect, redirectify, page redirect and similar keywords. (Or use the G search at the bottom because their search sucks…)

Another option to manually add a link to that list generated by the template tag in your header.php file.

It really depends on how your navigation bar is coded. Sometimes when you add a page, that new page gets added automatically to your nav bar. If that is the case, I would just create a sort of splash page, with a big link in HTML on that page to direct people to your forum.

Otherwise you will have to dig into your code.

That’s a dumb idea. You don’t need any kind of “splash” BS to make it work.
