New guy needing help ASAP!

Hey guys, I am running a wordpress site for a public event. Right after I took over I realized that there are no plug ins. I wonder what I can do to change that. I installed wordpress locally using Bitnami, but that only links to my own wordpress, which is a new one.

Is there anyway if I install wordpress first on my laptop and then update the remote website? I am not the founder, merely an administrator.
